This route goes through the northernmost part of the Valle dei Laghi touching evocative corners and offering some of the most fascinating panoramas of the Trentino area. Between small villages, ancient churches, mirrors of water, castles and a rich Mediterranean vegetation, birthplace of wines having unique aromas like Nosiola and Vino Santo, and some of the most prestigious grappas and olive oils in the world. The itinerary has some challenging parts like those of Terlago and other easier parts in the valley.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE:
The bike tour of Terlago begins at the lake Toblino, precisely at the Castel Toblino. Cross over the main road and take a road which alternates dirt and paved stretches which climb quite steeply up to the village of Ranzo. You can admire the beautiful panorama from here, go in the direction of Vezzano. Here the road, embedded in the rocks, is flat for a stretch and then starts going downhill on a paved road up to Lon. Here you leave the main road and turn left. After going through the village, you start pedalling on a dirt road up to Ciago, which you go through on the high part and then continue on a paved road until after curving you see a dirt road on your right. Go on this dirt road, go past a stable, continue straight ahead and then turn right. You will be on the main road. After a bend to the left you will reach Còvelo. Go through the village and follow the “Terlago bike” signs. After a paved stretch you will continue on a dirt road. You will now find a fork in the road with two options. If you turn left you will be on a challenging stretch because there are some roots which are slippery when wet or humid. If you turn right you will find a paved road. Then turn left and you will be in the village of Maso Ariol. Go straight ahead and, after a small paved stretch, pedal on a dirt road until you reach a house that has a dirt road on the right taking you to a fork in the road. Turn right and then left. After a short climb on a paved road you will continue on a dirt road in the meadows. Continue on the dirt road up to a clearing where you will turn right and then begin the descent which requires some caution due to the condition of the road. At the end of the path turn right on a dirt forest road which will lead you slowly to the lake Lamar. At the end of the descent go straight ahead and you will find a snack bar. After turning left the road starts climbing and is paved. This stretch alternates short climbs and descents on a dirt road and is quite fun. You will now reach Vallene where there is a camping site and a farm house. The dirt road climbs and then there is a nice descent which requires some caution. Down to the left you can see lake Terlago. You will reach a fork, stay on the left and climb up the dirt road followed by a beautiful descent on paved road. Then turn right and go down to the banks of Lake Terlago. Go along it at moderate speed. When you reach the intersection with the main road go across it and take the path along Lake Terlago until you cross the main road. Turn left and after about a hundred metres to the left go towards the sports centre Trilacum. The cycle lane starts here and takes you easily to the underlying area of Vigolo Baselga; then you proceed in the direction of Vezzano following the cycle lane itinerary. When you reach the square in Vezzano, turn right and go down a few metres, then turn right following the signs for Fraveggio. Climb on a paved road and at the second bend in the road you enter into the village. Take the first road on your left, it is a narrow, downhill paved road and you will a notice a sign for Vezzano to your left, there is a short, enjoyable descent on a dirt road, go down to Padergnone which leads to Due Laghi on a paved road. Here you take the pedestrian lane, pushing your bikes to the starting place.
